Mazarrón win at home to Puerto Lumbreras
More details about the Mazarrón supporter's club, Los Amigos de Mazarrón
Mazarron returned to winning ways with a good win against CD Lumbreras. In the first of a sequence of games against teams in the lower half of the league, two goals from Juan Andreo and captain Alfonso were enough to secure the three points in a match in which both teams squandered many chances.
In the opening exchanges a well hit shot from Tico was comfortably saved by the visiting keeper and another and another sailed just wide of the target. Lumbreras also had their chances but all were dealt with easily by Mazarron’s young goalkeeper keeper Ruben.
Mazarron took the lead around the half hour mark when a shot from Randry was fired high and wide. The referee, somewhat fortunately for the home team, awarded a corner and, from this, the cross was headed powerfully into the net by central defender Juan Andreo to give Mazarron a 1-0 lead at half time.
In the second half both teams once again squandered many opportunities. For Mazarron, Alfonso ran onto a through ball but his well hit shot was saved by the keeper and Alcon blazed a shot across the goal with no one able to force the ball into the gaping net. At the other end, Lumbreras had a great opportunity when Alcaraz was unable to cut out a through ball but the ever improving Ruben in the Mazarron goal once again came to the rescue with a fine save.
Shortly afterwards Alfonso, who had just missed a much easier opportunity, made the game safe for Mazarron when he cut in from the left and sent a fierce shot into the net. The game ended with Lumbreras missing another absolute sitter and Mazarron, despite the absence of leading scorer Jose Ruben through suspension, ran out 2-0 winners.
Although never at their best in this game, it was an in important victory for Mazarron and they moved into ninth place in the league also closing the gap on some of the teams in the promotion race. Next weekend they visit lowly CD Esparragal, who are next to bottom of the league, with a chance to close the gap on the promotion pack even further.
