ARCHIVED - Covid spirals in Spain; 6,391 new cases since Friday
ARCHIVED ARTICLE
855 new cases in the last 24 hours
The complicated reporting system of the Spanish Ministry of Health has resulted in an “adjustment” across the weekend, during which time there has been no publication of any daily figures, the result being that the Monday figures now show a total of 278,782 total cases in Spain, a rise of 6,391 since Friday, although the Ministry of Health is “only” reporting 855 new cases for the last 24 hours.
In addition, the report this Monday shows two more deaths since Friday, making a total of 28,434. In the last seven days, six people with COVID-19 have died in Spain.

Fernando Simón has returned to work following a few days of vacation, and stated the obvious saying that "the number of suspected outbreaks is increasing, compared to last week."
He noted that around 100 imported cases are being detected weekly, ranging from irregular immigration to international flights. "Most of the flights have brought just one case, but others have brought a few more." "This means that the virus is circulating."
There are currently 27 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, however this average cannot be applied because, according to Simón, no region comes anywhere close to the average. "They are all either well above or well below."
He said that the number of outbreaks in Spain has increased to 361 active outbreaks, with 4,100 cases, but refused to be drawn by journalists as to whether this constitutes the start of a second wave, limiting himself to saying that this would "have to be studied".
"We are detecting many more cases and thanks to that we can understand that the virus is continuing to circulate", although highlighting that he didn´t believe the situation to be out of control.
