ARCHIVED - 11 covid deaths end a week in which cases have doubled in the Murcia Region
ARCHIVED ARTICLE This has been the worst week of the pandemic so far for the Murcia Region
Last Friday the Murcia region had 6,964 active cases, a figure which has this week risen by 7,452, so more than double, to 14,416.
Fatalities last Friday were 771, a figure which is now 802, a rise of 31 during the last week (NB. On Saturday 11 further fatalities were announced so this total is now 813)
Total cases diagnosed were 64,980 and this figure is now 75,902, a rise of 10,922 new patients in a week.
There were 323 patients in hospital, there are now 640, more than double, with 103 in intensive care.
To sum up, it's been the worst week ever for the region, which now has the highest number of active cases than at any other time as well as the highest number of patients in hospital than at any other time.
This Saturday pressure continues to grow on the regional health service in Murcia as a further 1815 new covid positives are detected in the region and a further 32 admissions bring the total number of patients requiring hospital treatment for more severe cases of covid to 672, the highest number to date since the pandemic began.
Of the 1,815 new cases, 650 correspond to the municipality of Murcia, 181 to Cartagena, 143 to Yecla, 97 to Molina de Segura, 85 to Mula, 71 to Caravaca de la Cruz, 50 to Cieza, 39 to Fortuna, 34 to Alcantarilla, 33 to Lorca, 33 to San Pedro del Pinatar, 32 to Moratalla, 30 to Jumilla, 25 to La Unión, 24 to Las Torres de Cotillas, 23 to Alguazas, 23 to Torre Pacheco, 21 to Archena, 19 to San Javier, 17 to Abarán, 17 to Ceutí, 16 to Alhama de Murcia, 12 to Cehegín, 12 to Lorquí, 12 to Mazarrón, 11 to Los Alcázares, 11 to Blanca, 10 to Bullas, 9 to Pliego, 8 to Santomera, 6 to Águilas, and 6 to Puerto Lumbreras.
There are now 15,451 active cases in the region, the highest figure to date.
Fatalities.
11 fatalities were reported for the last 24 hour period, five men and six women, aged 76, 67, 52, 89, 84, 80, 85, 55, 67, 85 and 86, two from Murcia, three from Cartagena and one from each of Cieza, Jumilla, Lorquí, Abanilla, Fuente Alamo and Yecla. This brings the total fatalities since the pandemic began to 813.

14,779 patients are in home isolation with mild cases, the highest number since the pandemic began.
Throughout the week, the regional health service has been implementing measures to try and free up staff resources, and to cope with the growing demands on its facilities and resources.
