971 new cases have been diagnosed in the last 24 hour period
Sunday is normally the quietest day of the week for diagnoses as less staff are dedicated to undertaking PCR tests, but the Murcia Region still managed to report 971 new cases in the latest 24 hour period, following a record week of contagions.
Of the 971 new cases, 230 correspond to the municipality of Murcia, 142 to Cartagena, 131 to Lorca, 65 to Yecla, 42 to Molina de Segura, 31 to Jumilla, 29 to Caravaca de la Cruz, 22 to Totana, 20 to Fortuna, 19 to Águilas, 19 to Alcantarilla, 16 to Mazarrón, 16 to Torre Pacheco, 15 to Mula, 15 to Puerto Lumbreras, 14 to Las Torres de Cotillas, 13 to Fuente Álamo, 11 to Cieza, 11 to La Unión, 10 to Archena , 9 to Moratalla, 8 to San Javier, 7 to Abanilla, 7 to Los Alcázares, 7 to Alhama de Murcia, 7 to Santomera, 5 to Calasparra, 5 to Cehegín, 5 to Ceutí, and 5 to San Pedro del Pinatar.
This latest batch of new cases brings the total number of active cases in the region up to 16.103, another record high for the region.
Fatalities: But although the number of new diagnoses may have been lower than on previous days, the number of fatalities was the same as Saturday, with 11 deaths bringing the total number of fatalities since the start of the pandemic to 833. The deceased were six women and five men, aged between 71 and 99 years with five from Murcia City, two from Yecla, and one from each of Jumilla, Alcantarilla, Águilas and Cartagena. 46 people died last week, a level of deaths not seen since the peak of the second wave in November.
Hospitalisations:
The situation continued to worsen in the region’s hospitals, with admissions hitting a new record for the fourth consecutive day; 715, with the number in intensive care rising to 105 in spite of the 11 deaths. The number of patients in home isolation with mild symptoms also hit another record high: 15,388.
