ARCHIVED - 114 deaths, covid total rises by 12,272 in the last 24 hours; Spain 25th September
Madrid remains the region with the most cases and mortalities
The Spanish Ministry of Health has reported 12,272 cases of Covid-19 this Friday, (23% of them in Madrid) of which 4,122 have been diagnosed in the last 24 hours, the remainder of the figure reached by the process of verifying the cases reported by the 17 regional health authorities in preceding days, which are then added into the overall total, creating the total daily figure.
These latest additions bring the global figure of people infected with coronavirus since the beginning of the pandemic in Spain to 716,481.
Today's was an inter-day increase of 15% compared to the 10,653 infected computed on Thursday, a percentage too high, experts admit, for a situation of supposed slowdown of the pandemic in search of the longed-for second wave infectious peak; there is still a long way to go warn some experts in spite of ministry optimism, one mathematical model published in the last 24 hours warning that Spain can expect just under two thousand deaths in the next two weeks.

Cumulative incidence
The national cumulative incidence (the number of cases per 100,000 inhabitants in the last 14 days), was slightly reduced from 283 positives to 282 with 132,749 cases.
This measurement is important because rather than focusing on the number of cases, it examines the number of cases per 100,000 of population, so removes the imbalance created by some regions having higher popualtions than others.
This data varies significantly in the different regions: Madrid, in the lead, has a cumulative incidence of 721; followed by Navarra, with 662; La Rioja, with 494; Castilla-La Mancha, 417; Murcia, 404; Aragon, with 380, and Castilla y León, 371.
Asturias, which until Wednesday was the only community with less than 100 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, now has a cumulative incidence of 111, compared to 107 on Thursday.
The Ministry of Health is currently recommending that population centres which exceed 500 cases per 100,000 should be confined or more restrictive measures introduced as there is obviously a problem in these specific areas.
The Community of Madrid, the most affected in Spain and which today announced further measures in 8 districts from Monday, has an average of 721, well above the recommended bar, but refuses to extend restrictions to all areas above the 500 mark; should it do so, most of Madrid would be confined instead of less than 20% of the population.

Hospìtalisations
There are currently 11,006 patients admitted for Covid-19 throughout Spain and 1,465 in an ICU, although in the last 24 hours there have been 1,358 admissions and 1,107 discharges. The occupancy rate for beds occupied by coronavirus is 9.5 percent and 17.17 percent in ICUs.
Madrid has the highest occupancy with 25.4% of the hospital beds occupied by patients with covid; while Castilla-La Mancha is at 14.2%; Aragon, Castilla y León, and La Rioja, at 11%, and Navarra and the Basque Country, at 10%.
For ICU occupancy, the percentage of occupied beds remains at 17%; and the highest rate is in Madrid, which goes from 38.9% to 40.1%; followed by La Rioja, which continues at 37%; Aragon, with 30.9%, and Castilla y León, with 26.3%.
