Free recitals and concerts at historic venues in the city of Lorca, celebrating the heritage of Early Music
For the seventh year in succession a series of free entry early and baroque music recitals is being held in Lorca this October during the “MVSAL” festival at venues which include some of the most emblematic buildings in the city, and this year the program includes not only concerts but also a series of educational concerts.
All of the concerts are FREE OF CHARGE and there is no need to pre-register or collect tickets in advance, simply turn up at the venue and enjoy the free music.
The free entry concerts schedule for the festival are as follows:
Thursday 17th October 2019 at 20.15 in the chapel of the Santo Domingo church. Click for map: the church of Santo Domingo
The Grupo Axivil offers a concert entitled "Como Rosa entre Espinas"; like a rose between the thorns at 20.15 featuring vocals and string instruments with María Altabill and Felipe Sánchez Mascuñano.
Friday 18th October 2019 at 20.15 in the convent and church of the Virgen de las Huertas. This is on the opposite bank of the river to the main city and houses the remains of a Moorish palace beneath the main church.
This concert starts at 20.15 and is entuitled Concierto Ibérico- Glosas y danzas. This is a concert featuring the flauta de pico, a type of early flute, a sackbut and clave with musicians Olga Rodón, Juan González and Lea Suter.
Saturday 19th October at 20.15 the Lux Fundació, comprising Santi Mirón and Eva del Campo perform "El Laberinto de Europa" in the Capilla Virgen del Alcázar in the Iglesia de San Patricio using viol (or “gamba”) and Cémbalo. Click for map: the former Collegiate Church of San Patricio.
Wednesday 23rd October at 20.15 in the iglesia de san Francisco church, with an organ concert by Javier Artigas
Thursday 24th October in the Huerto Ruano Emilio Villalba offers a talk about Mediaeval instruments at 20.15
Friday 25th October. During the morning educational concerts are scheduled in two local schools and in the evening at 20.15 the Trío Sephardica offers a concert of Jewish mediaeval music in the church of the Iglesia del Convento de Las Clarisas with vocals, percussion and historical mediaeval instruments by Ángeles Nuñez, Emilio Villalba and Sara Marina.The Convento de las Hermanas Pobres de Santa Clara (Las Clarisas) is alongside the rambla of Lorca opposite the Huerto de la Ruana showground.
Saturday 26th October the VII Festival MVSAL concludes with a concert entitled Danzas Históricas y Clave in the Colegio de san Patricio at 20.15 with Eva Narejos and Anbel Sáez. Click for map; the former Collegiate Church of San Patricio.
