Lorca was an important Mediaeval frontier town, straddling the border between Moorish Andalucía and Christian Murcia, the Jewish inhabitants of Lorca an important link between the two communities and the trading routes which ran along the Spanish coastline.

Lorca contains the only synagogue never to have been re-used by another religion following the expulsion of the Jews and Moors from Spain in 1492 when the fall of the Nazrid Dynasty in Granada concluded the “Reconquist” of Spain and the country was united for the first time.
The synagogue in Lorca has been fully excavated and is conserved beneath the Parador hotel and within the protective shadow of the castle, open for visits via the castle, the precious glass lamps and other artefacts recovered from its ruins now on show in the municipal archaeological museum.

This new activity for the 2020 season focuses on the Jewish quarter of the castle complex and is offered by around a dozen actors, who will recreate the activities carried out in the old quarter during the Mediaeval period, bringing the work of the tailors, butchers and the inhabitants to life for one day.
The activity includes a visit to the former Jewish synagogue beneath the Parador. (Spanish language tour.)
During 2020 this activity is offered on the following dates: 1st March, 13th June, 6th September, 19th December.
Tour times: 10:30 and 12:30, with the tour lasting approximately 75 minutes.
Prices:
Adults and children over the age of 13; 10€
Children aged 5-12; 5€, Children under the age of 4 free of charge.
