Increased testing in the run-up to festive gatherings has shown up more new cases, with over 12,000 people in Murcia currently infected
The Regional Ministry has asked everyone in Murcia to take extra precautions for Christmas social gatherings, especially when around vulnerable people. The best Christmas present you can get someone else this year is wearing a facemask, getting vaccinated if you haven’t done so already or getting the booster shot if you’re able.
New cases
As of yesterday, a total of 1,999 new cases were confirmed, with 710 corresponding to Murcia, 230 to Cartagena, 96 to Molina de Segura, 83 to Totana, 77 to Lorca, 71 to Caravaca de la Cruz, 58 to Alcantarilla, 56 to Águilas, 54 to Las Torres de Cotillas, 48 to Cieza, 43 to San Javier, 38 to Yecla, 33 to Jumilla, 31 to Jumilla, 31 to Lorca and 31 to San Javier, 33 to Jumilla, 31 to Alhama, 28 to San Pedro del Pinatar and La Unión, 27 to Bullas and Archena, 26 to Torre Pacheco, 25 to Puerto Lumbreras, 20 to Fuente Álamo, 17 to Moratalla and Santomera, 16 to Mazarrón, 15 to Mula, 13 to Lorqui, 12 to Cehegín and 11 to Abarán.
Active cases
There are now over 12,000 people currently estimated to be infected with Covid-19 in Murcia, whereas there were 10,000 at the beginning of this week.
Fatalities
A 70-year-old woman in the Mar Menor area died from coronavirus yesterday, bringing the overall death toll in the Region to 1,801.
Hospitalisations
11,957 people are in self-isolation at home with the virus, while 285 have been hospitalised. Of these, 62 are in the ICU, showing a slow but steady rise in the number of hospitalisations in the Region.
Incidence rate
The 14-day cumulative incidence rate in Murcia is now 1,008.6 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, which is a jump of more than 50% since the beginning of this week when it was 617.6. The 7-day rate is also rapidly increasing and now stands at 640 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, up from 435 on Monday.
Vaccines
There are now 1,186,713 in the Region of Murcia who have been fully vaccinated, which is 90.6% of the population, while 312,033 have also had a booster jab.
