ARCHIVED - 280 new cases and 9 fatalities; Murcia Region covid update Thursday 26th
ARCHIVED ARTICLE
The pandemic is currently stabilising, with the PCR tests taken in the last 24 hours yielding just 5.8% positivity
Signs that the coronavirus pandemic is being gradually brought under control in the Murcia Region continue to come thick and fast, the latest figures published on Thursday considerably lower again than those published last week.
In the last 24 hours 280 new positives have been diagnosed, a third of the figure reported two weeks ago when 808 cases were recorded. Since then the number of active cases are 40 percent lower than at that same point, as the restrictions applied limit the spread of the virus, and for all of the last week, the region has reported less than 300 new cases a day.
The 280 new cases are spread right around the region; 56 correspond to the municipality of Murcia, 27 to Yecla, 22 to Cartagena, 21 to Totana, 15 to Caravaca de la Cruz, 15 to Molina de Segura, 14 to Lorca, 13 to Jumilla, 10 to Los Alcázares, 9 to Torre Pacheco, 8 to San Pedro del Pinatar, 7 to Mazarrón, 6 to Alcantarilla, and 6 to San Javier, with the remainder accounting for less than 5 cases in any municipality.
Hospitalisations:
The number of patients requiring hospital care has fallen by 7 today, down to 449 and the total in ICU has reduced by two to 91; these are still very high levels of patients, but the pressure is lower than a week ago. There are now 7,280 patients in home isolation with mild symptoms.
Fatalities:
In the last 24 hours there have been 9 further fatalities, taking the total to 587; this is almost 450 for this second wave of the pandemic, three times the total recorded during the first wave. The nine victims were aged 83, 86, 69, 71, 60, 63, 96, 100 and 89, four from Murcia city, two from Lorca and the remainder from Ceutí, Alhama and Beniel.
AI
The accumulated incidence rate (rate per 100,000 of population) continues to fall; the rate over 7 days is now 124, and 358 over 14 days. The trend is favorable in almost all of the municipalities, but the situation in Yecla continues to be serious, with the highest rate in the region; 1083. Totana has a rate of 787, Caravaca 772, Los Alcázares 712, Alhama de Murcia 643, Jumilla 636, and Torre Pacheco 585, all of the above at risk of not being able to open bars next week if the figures don´t come down rapidly.
Recoveries: The total of patients now recovered from the virus has reached 42,485 in the last 24 hours.
