28,451 new cases in the last 7 days
The Spanish Ministry of Health has reported the diagnosis within the last 24 hours of 2,987 new cases of Covid-19 on Friday 14th August, a figure similar to the 2,935 notified on Thursday. Since the beginning of the pandemic there have been 342,813 positives; which means that the Ministry has incorporated 5,079 more than those notified on Thursday, 337,334, into its total figure of Covid cases .
Last Friday the total was 314,362, so in one week there have been 28,451 new cases added into the count, the equivalent of 4,074 a DAY.
Of the 2,987 new cases, 244 have occurred in Andalusia, 481 in Aragon, 22 in Asturias, nine in the Balearic Islands, 108 in the Canary Islands, 61 in Cantabria, 39 in Castilla-La Mancha, 93 in Castilla y León, 169 in Catalonia, two in Ceuta, 167 in the Valencian Community, 66 in Extremadura, 102 in Galicia, 731 in Madrid (on Monday an intensive PCR campaign is starting in the worst-affected districts as Madrid re-establishes itself as a major focal point of contagions, five in Melilla, 49 in Murcia, 108 in Navarra, 480 in the Basque Country and 51 in La Rioja.
Taking these data into account, one in four new are in Madrid and the Region of Madrid, Aragon and the Basque Country account for more than half of the positive cases detected in the last 24 hours.
In the last seven days, 62 people have died in Spain, with four deaths in Andalusia, twelve in Aragón, two in the Canary Islands, one in Cantabria, two in Castilla-La Mancha, four in Castilla y León, one in Catalonia, three in the Valencia Region, one in Extremadura, four in Galicia, 23 in Madrid, one in Murcia, three in Navarra and one in the Basque Country. A total of 28,617 people have died having given a positive Covid-19 test since the pandemic began.
This Friday's Health report also includes 1,015 hospital admissions in the last week: 99 in Andalusia, 171 in Aragón, four in Asturias, 31 in the Balearic Islands, 33 in the Canary Islands, 22 in Cantabria, one in Castilla-La Mancha, 65 in Castilla y León, 70 in Catalonia, two in Ceuta, 96 in the Valencia Region, 13 in Extremadura, 39 in Galicia, 279 in Madrid, one in Melilla, 37 in Murcia, 35 in Navarra, 14 in the Basque Country and three in La Rioja .
Yesterday the medical profession warned that staff were exhausted after months of pressure and the system would collapse if more was not done to halt the spread in the virus, hence the emergency measures agreed on Friday with the intention of putting the brakes on the new contagions, focusing on areas known to create outbreaks such as the nocturnal leisure sector.
