ARCHIVED - 2nd to 10th December Fiestas of Santa Eulalia in Totana
Musical activities, Romería, floral offering, guided visits
Totana celebrates its annual fiestas patronales in honour of Santa Eulalia, who spends most of the year in the
sanctuary of La Santa high above Totana in the Sierra Espuña, a glorious location with an extraordinary church, and is carried down into Totana on the 8th December, then taken back up again in January. These Romerías are a real pleasure, a 7km walk, along with a huge crowd of people enjoying the experience. The bajada, or carrying down is considerably easier than walking up, although the very early morning bus ride up to the sanctuary in time for 7am chocolate and 8am mass is quite a killer!
Throughout the fiestas there is a fairground, installed at the Recinto ferial, which is in the residential area of Totana in the heart of a modern urbanisation, heading out towards the Sierra Espuña.
The Feria de Día ( which is the tapas bars and refreshments) is in the Plaza Constitución in front of the town hall and sells tapas and drinks, as well as being a point of social gathering.
The Pabellón municipal Manuel Ibañez sports pavilion is an additional venue this year , hosting several events: Pabellón municipal Manuel Ibañez sports pavilion
Other cultural activities are in the Centro Cultural La Carcel, which is where tickets are on sale for any paid events and bookings can be made to take part in the paella or migas making competitions.
Most events are free, only one or two with paid entry and most of the money taken on the doors is for various local charities. Parallel sporting events run both before and after the fiestas.
