ARCHIVED - 3 deaths, 370 new cases; coronavirus Murcia 16th September
The total number of cured cases is 6,157 and the total number of active cases 6,639
The Region of Murcia regional health authority has published its latest set of data relating to the evolution of the coronavirus in the region, the data published on Wednesday relating to Tuesday 15th September.
On Tuesday PCR testers carried out 3,287 PCR tests, detecting 370 cases of coronavirus, bringing the total number of tests carried out in the region to 197,048 PCR tests and 66,199 antibody tests (194 more).
There are now 6,639 ACTIVE cases in the region, and the total number of cases diagnosed since the pandemic began is 14,684.
Of the 370 new cases, 96 correspond to the municipality of Murcia, 47 to Lorca, 28 to Jumilla, 21 to Alcantarilla, 20 to Torre Pacheco, 18 to Alhama de Murcia, 15 to Caravaca de la Cruz, 15 to Cartagena, 14 to Totana , 13 to Mazarrón, 11 to Mula, 9 to Molina de Segura, 7 to Archena, 6 to Cieza, 6 to Fortuna, 5 to Cehegín, 5 to Fuente Álamo, and 5 to La Unión. The remainder are distributed amongst other municipalities in smaller quantities.
Cases diagnosed during the last 7 days, followed by rate per 100,000 of population (IA rate). The regional average is 212 (193 yesterday), so anything below that figure is low. Note, the first figure shown is the actual number of cases in the last 7 days, the second is the IA rate for the last 7 days:

Hospitalisations:
Of the 6,639 active cases, 6,311 are in home isolation. This leaves 328 hospitalised, two less than on Monday and with 59 in intensive care units. This is a slight improvement on the figures last week when the regional health service warned that intensive care facilities (115 beds across the region) would be put under severe pressure should the number of cases continue to rise. The number of cases in ICU has remained fairly stable this week, and is currently 3 cases lower than this time last week.
Around the world questions are continually being asked about how the crisis relating to covid should be managed and how the authorities should manage the general population in order to limit the spread of the virus. There is no evidence to contradict the premise that more testing yields more coronavirus cases, and for those who are opposed to the wearing of masks and lockdowns, the only true measure is the hospitalisation figures and actual deaths as there is such a huge amount of information which can be interpreted to fit the theory of the author, and indeed, there are many theories and many different bodies modelling their own version of the “scientific information”. Some advocate test, test, test, whereas others question whether the PCR testing method is turning up false positives, virus fragments or “active cases”. Yet others question whether Spain is even in the midst of a “second wave” of the same pandemic or is simply entering a new cycle of autumn flu, with covid as the predominant virus. Convincing these doubters will depend entirely on the core hospitalisations and deaths data published during the next 6 months. For the moment, the national and regional governments continue to promote a hand washing, social distancing and mask wearing approach as the way they best believe that the spread of the virus to the more vulnerable groups can be controlled and managed, and the health service cope with the level of severe cases.
Fatalities:Three deaths have been reported within the last 24 hour period, bringing the number of deaths in total up to 182, and this month to 22. All three are male: a 62 year-old man from Totana; an 85 year-old from Murcia and a 72 year-old from La Unión.
