ARCHIVED - 414 new cases and 2 deaths in 24 hours; Murcia covid Monday 28th September
ARCHIVED ARTICLE The total number given the all-clear now exceeds the total number of active cases in the Murcia Region
The Region of Murcia began the week announcing that the municipality of Totana would once again be confined, joining Jumilla and Lorca city in a “flexibilised phase 1 confinement” which basically means that although members of the public are not confined to their homes, that they are not permitted to enter or leave the municipality other than for essential reasons.
The daily figures published on Monday relate to Sunday, and show that 414 new cases of Covid were detected during the last 24 hour period, after technicians of the health ministry undertook 2,695 PCR tests.
This once again lifted the percentage of positive tests back up to over 15%, as compared to earlier in the week when the percentage had hovered around the 10% mark.
The new cases detected were once again spread around the Region of Murcia, the urban city of Murcia with the most cases; 109, followed by Totana, with 57, 53 in Lorca, 49 in Cartagena, 21 in Fuente Álamo, 20 in Molina de Segura, 12 in Alcantarilla, 12 in Cieza, 10 in Jumilla, 9 in Alhama de Murcia, and 6 in Archena, the remainder distributed amongst various municipalities in smaller quantities.
NB: Waiting for update of figures by municipality. Will be added in once published
Fatalities:
Two fatalities are included in the figures published on Monday; a 39 year old female from Jumilla, user of a residencia for those with mental disabilities in Jumilla, and a 52 year old male from La Unión, bringing the total number of fatalities up to 206.This is the 20th consecutive day on which fatalities have been reported and the total for September is now 46.
Hospitalisations:
Nine further patients have been admitted to hospital during the last 24 hours, bringing the total to 340, of whom 64 are in intensive care.
Patients cured:
This week the number of patients cured is expected to climb a little quicker as the quarantine period has now been reduced to 10 days. 387 of the patients in quarantine have now been given the all-clear, bringing this total up to 10,080, which is good news as it means the total number of cured exceeds the number of active cases for the first time. An elevated number of patients being given the all-clear a little quicker also helps to bring down the active cases total, which is now 8,251.
Regional Minister says the curve is “beginning to stabilise”
Regional Health Minister, Manuel Villegas maintains that "the curve is beginning to stabilize" and that in this last week the regional rate has dropped more than 10 percent. However, he has also hedged his bets by saying that "we have to be prudent and see what happens in the next few days."
So he continues to call for residents to comply with security measures and avoid risky situations, while asking those over 65 to limit outings and stay indoors as much as possible.
