article_detailDate Published: 18/05/2020ARCHIVED ARTICLEARCHIVED - 45 Totana residents quarantined in a sports centre following six new cases
The close contacts of the 6 new cases have been put in a sports centre for two weeks to reduce the risk of the contagion spreading
On Friday afternoon 45 people were put on a coach and taken to a sports centre where they will remain in quarantine for two weeks following confirmation of an outbreak in the municipality.Six agricultural workers, four of them from the same family, were diagnosed as positive and as a precautionary measure all of their close contacts were identified and taken to a closed location for quarantining in an effort to prevent the virus from spreading any further. The agricultural workers concerned all worked for different farms but shared the same vehicle for transport. The Guardia Civil, Policía Local and Protección Civil de Totana all worked together to oversee the operation and ensure that the outbreak was contained as rapidly as possible.Following the departure of the bus, all areas known to have been transited by the new cases were disinfected. The mayor, Juan José Cánovas, issued a video message calling for tranquility and responsibility to avoid an increase in infections; and he has reiterated his message of concern about this “backwards step” for the municipality, calling for responsibility in the community. It’s interesting to observe the speed and efficiency with which these 45 people were removed from Totana and put into enforced quarantine in a sealed area in order to prevent further spread of the virus and it’s the type of measure which has been discussed by the regional health authority as part of its plans for a possible “second wave” of the virus.Considerable resource will be dedicated to identifying and tracking positive cases, isolating all known contacts and enforcing quarantine in an attempt to “shut down” any new cases and limit their spread.Sunday figures for the Murcia Region:Sunday (figures presented Sunday evening which will be included in the national totals for MondayTotal active cases: 270Total cases: 2595(1556 diagnosed by PCR 1039 using rapid tester)Hospitalised: 32Intensive care: 9Home isolation: 238Fatalities: 145Cured: 2180Images.
