ARCHIVED - 75 positives during the last 24 hours brings Murcia cases up to 584
ARCHIVED ARTICLE 80% are in Mazarrón, Totana and Lorca
On Thursday the number of cases in the Murcia Region took a sudden step upwards, with 75 new cases diagnosed in a 24 hour period.
The majority are in the three municipalities of Totana, Lorca and Mazarrón which between them accounted for nearly 80% of the new cases.
Totana recorded 40 new cases, the majority linked to the outbreak in the Pub Dubai, amply justifying the decision taken by the Covid Monitoring Committee last night to leave the municipality in phase one for a further week. There are now 150 cases in Totana. That situation will be reviewed on Monday when the committee next meets.
After large numbers of new cases on Monday, both Lorca and Mazarrón had appeared to stabilise and no further restrictions were announced yesterday, but on Thursday the numbers resumed an upward trajectory, rising in Lorca from 17 to 29 and in Mazarrón from 21 to 30.
The increase in Lorca also relates to nightlife and focuses around two pubs which have now been temporarily closed. Testing of all those who had used the pubs recently is now leading to an increase in cases, but two of the positives are players of Lorca Deportiva Football Club which has recently moved up to the Segunda División B following the last match of the season on Saturday. Both the Lorca team and its rival on Saturday, Atlético Pulpileño, will now be quarantined and tested.
In Mazarrón the testing has highlighted a focal point in an agricultural business in the municipality which employs around 100 people and has been temporarily closed following the detection of eight new cases amongst the workforce, bringing the total number of cases in the company to 12.
These latest results bring the total number of active cases in the region to 584.
528 of the positives are in domestic isolation, 56 are in hospital and the number in intensive care increased today to 2.
The fatalities remain unchanged at 151, the same figure for the whole of the month.
