Click HereThe Urcilla ceramics workshop in Águilas is holding the second edition of a workshop dedicated to the art of making ceramics via the Raku firing method.
This firing technique involves heating the ceramics until they are red hot, then removing them from the kiln and plunging into closed containers of organic compounds, which then ignite, creating an intense reduction atmosphere. The resulting pieces have a specific style of glaze impossible to produce via alternative firing techniques, a style usually associated with Japanese teawares.
The workshop is spread across two sessions (total 7 hours), and each student will produce two pieces.
The cost of the workshop is 50 euros per student and includes the clay, glazes, oxides and tools required to make the pieces, as well as the two firings (bisque firing following the first session and the final Raku firing.)
Tuition is in Spanish at the workshop in Águilas.
