The regional Health Authority of the Region of Murcia has published its official statistics for the coronavirus pandemic during the last 24 hours, relating to the 24 hour period concluding at midnight on 28th October and published on 29th October.
During this period the health service diagnosed 804 new cases using PCR and antigen testing methods.
Of the 804 new cases, 286 correspond to the municipality of Murcia, 73 to Cartagena, 39 to Molina de Segura, 38 to Alcantarilla, 31 to Totana, 27 to Caravaca de la Cruz, 26 to Jumilla, 26 to Lorca, 23 to Torre Pacheco , 22 to Alhama de Murcia, 21 to Cieza, 19 to Archena, 15 to Cehegín, 15 to San Javier, 12 to Bullas, 12 to Fuente Álamo, 11 to Santomera, 10 to Mazarrón, 10 to Yecla, 9 to Ceutí, 9 to Moratalla, 9 to Las Torres de Cotillas, 9 to La Unión, 8 to San Pedro del Pinatar, 6 to Águilas, and 6 to Beniel. The remaining cases are distributed amongst the other municipalities, albeit in smaller quantities.
The image below shows the number of cases registered by municipality in total, and during the last 7 and 14 day period, the accumulated incidence rate and the population of each municipality so that the seriousness of the situation in some municipalities can clearly be seen.
Accumulated incidence rate
Last night the regional health authority decided to apply additional restrictions in 10 municipalities due to their high level of covid. 25 cases per 100,000 is the target to which the Spanish Government wishes to reduce the level of contagion, the level at which the WHO believes the virus is under control. Currently, every single municipality of the Murcia Region exceeds this target except for Aledo and Ojós.
The worst affected are Campos del Río with a very high rate of 2810 per 100,000 of population, followed by Villanueva with 2164, Moratalla 688, Archena 606, Ceuti 602, Beniel 592, Albudeite 582, Lorqui 546 and Fortuna 543.
The region itself has an accumulated incidence rate of 376 cases per 100,000 over the last 7 days and 655 over the last 14 days.

Fatalities:
Six deaths directly related to the coronavirus have been reported within the last 24 hours, bringing the overall total to 309.
The six deceased were aged 54, 60, 75, 77, 81 and 91; five were female and one male, three of the deceased were from the Murcia municipality and one each from Caravaca de la Cruz, Alhama and Yecla.
Death certificates attributing the deaths of these 6 people will be recorded in the official Civic Registry so that the figures relating to covid victims can be produced by the National Statistics institute.
Hospitalisations:
10 patients were admitted with symptoms considered by medical professionals to be serious enough for them to warrant hospitalisation due to the coronavirus. These patients are being kept in isolated wards, well away from other patients due to the extreme virulence of the virus.Ther are now 510 patients hospitalised through covid, the highest figure ever and 89 in intensive care, also the highest figure to date.
9,969 patients remain in domestic isolation with mild symptoms.
14% of all patients tested during PCR testing, yielded a positive result; this level of positivity is considered by the WHO to represent uncontrolled transmission, which in layman’s terms means that the virus is spreading throughout the population in an uncontrolled fashion, outside of any localised outbreaks. This, in turn, means that the possibility of contagion is considered to represent a danger to the general public, hence the decision of the regional Government to limit mobility and limit the opportunities for contagion in an attempt to protect the lives of the public.
Recoveries:
During the last 24 hours, 677 of those diagnosed as positive through PCR testing have now been given the all clear, bringing this total to 23,313. As this figure is lower than the number of new cases, which was 804, the total of active cases has risen to10,479 and the overall total of cases diagnosed to date to 35,807.

Daily reporting of information in English.
Murcia Today publishes daily updates of all aspects of the coronavirus. All of the statistics published are from official sources and accurately represent the current coronavirus situation in both the Murcia Region and Spain, without embellishment. As readers will be aware, this pandemic is worldwide and is creating considerable inconvenience for billions of people, with restrictions in place right across Europe, millions of people confined, thousands hospitalised and more than 1.1 million dead.
We are aware that there are people who still deny the existence of the virus and of course they are entitled to post on their own social media and call the credibility of information into question, but we are totally satisfied that these figures accurately represent the current situation. There is also considerable mis-information on social media. Due to the level of abuse and threats against journalists from those who wish to prevent the publication of these accurate figures and attack the credibility of this publication, posting in some groups has been discontinued. Our posts can all be found on the Murcia Today Facebook page.
