ARCHIVED - Active cases in Murcia region rise by 71 to 863 on Thursday 6th
ARCHIVED ARTICLE 5 of the 6 patients in intensive care are under the age of 50
The general director of public health for the Region of Murcia, José Carlos Vicente, presented the Thursday Covid data for the Murcia Region, which took the number of active cases from 797 on Wednesday to 863 on Thursday.
In two weeks the number of positive cases has increased from 252 to 863, an increase of 611 cases, which is a substantial rise.
The week before the region had only 88 active cases.
A large volume of this Covid activity has stemmed from the “Bolivian outbreak” which started with 3 people returning from Bolivia during lockdown and has now caused chains of contagion all across the region.
Unfortunately, the cases are becoming increasingly widely dispersed; the data by municipality at the bottom of this document was published last night and shows the distribution of cases YESTERDAY and relates to the number of new contagions in the past 14 days. Not all of these are active now as some patients were only suffering with mild symptoms and have already been classified as “recovered”.
The number of those recovered to date is 1734 (Please note, only those tested by swab test are included in the recovered figures, although most of those testing positive in antibody tests are also recovered, which totals 1706 ).
The 71 new cases dignosed in the last 24 hours are distributed as follows;
13 in Lorca, 11 in Totana, 20 in Murcia, 5 in Mazarrón, 6 in Cartagena, 3 in Beniel, 2 in Alhama, Molina de Segura, Puerto Lumbreras and Torres de Cotillas, and 1 in Alcantarilla, Blanca, Fortuna, San Javier and Yecla.
The Director-General once again highlighted the importance of sending the correct message to young people that they are a major contributor to the spread of Covid; 70% of the cases detected are in those aged between 15 and 50.
The number of patients in intensive care has risen today by two further cases, the patients aged 41 and 47. This brings the total to 6, five of whem are under the age of 50, The sixth patient is 83.
The total of hospitalised patients fell by two today to 72 and the remaining 791 active cases are in domestic quarantine.
