ARCHIVED - Alhama de Murcia presents its 2016 Sendalhama guided walks program
8 walks in the Murcia countryside organized by Alhama Town Hall
The Town Hall of Alhama de Murcia has unveiled the routes which are to be included in this year’s edition of the popular “Sendalhama” guided walks program, which offers members of the public to get to know spectacular, beautiful and often relatively unknown locations in the countryside of the Region of Murcia.
As in previous years, registration will be opened for two of the routes at a time as the year progresses, and is now under way for the first two walks of the year. These will be held on Sunday 31st January, when participants can enjoy "Un glorioso viaje al infierno" (a glorious journey to hell!) in the Barrancos de Gebas, and on Saturday 20th February, when walkers can admire the almond blossom in the Sierra Espuña.
Registration for these two walks can be completed at the Tourist Office of Alhama, which is open on weekdays from 9.00 to 14.00 and 17.00 to 20.00 and on Saturdays from 10.00 to 13.00. The cost to all walkers over the age of ten is 3 euros.
For safety reasons numbers have to be limited on each walk to a maximum of 75, and at the same time each person visiting the tourist office can register a maximum of three others, supplying complete personal details of each (name, ID number, age, phone number and email address). Walkers are asked to bring along the exact amount of cash needed when they visit the tourist office.
The routes included in the 2016 Sendalhama are the following:
NOTE: In theory none of the walks is especially difficult, but they are recommended mainly for those who are in the habit of walking long distances and can handle occasional steep slopes and loose surfaces.
All walkers must bring at least a litre of drinking water, appropriate footwear, a cap, a cagoule and warm clothing, and it is recommended that a stick, binoculars and a camera should also be included in backpacks.
All walkers under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
Travel to and from the walks is by bus.
The Town Hall reserves the right to postpone all walks in case of adverse weather conditions or other unforeseen circumstances, re-organizing them to alternative dates.
All walks are conducted by a well-informed guide who knows the area, aided by support staff.
Members of Protección Civil will accompany all walks.
Visit the Alhama de Murcia town page for more local information.
