Ministry of Health confirms 342 new infections across the region, including 141 in Alicante province, and five deaths
The Ministry of Health has today reported 342 new Covid cases in the Valencia region - almost double that reported on Friday October 1, although the data has been collected over a three-day period - but for Alicante province, the figures represent a significant step in the right direction.
Since the last update, there have been 141 new infections in Alicante province, the lowest figure recorded in a weekend since the end of June.
And whilst hospital admissions have risen slightly, there are six fewer critically ill coronavirus patients in intensive care units.
However, after the region reached a milestone on Friday of no reported deaths since July 20, sadly this has been followed up with the notification of five Covid-related fatalities.
New cases
A further 342 new cases have been reported in the Valencia region, up from 178 on Friday October 1, bringing the total number of positives since the beginning of the pandemic to 510,196. By province: 57 in Castellón (53,124 in total); 141 in Alicante (187,261 in total) and 144 in Valencia (270,151 in total).
Recoveries
473 people have recovered from Covid since the last update, meaning that to date, 511,969 people in the Valencian region have overcome the virus. By province: 53,490 in Castellón; 187,063 in Alicante; and 271,359 in Valencia.
Hospitalisations
There are currently 173 people admitted to hospitals in the three provinces, up from 169 on Friday, 46 of whom are being treated in ICUs (six less than at the start of the week): 30 in the province of Castellón, four in ICU; 71 in the province of Alicante, 21 in ICU; and 71 in the province of Valencia, 21 of them in ICU.
Fatalities
Five deaths have been reported since the last update, four of which occurred in September and one in July, meaning the total now stands at 7,793 since the start of the pandemic: 843 of these fatalities have been recorded in Castellón; 2,990 in Alicante; and 3,960 in the province of Valencia.
Vaccinations
There has been no update in relation to vaccinations, but on Friday, a total of 4,056,216 people had received one dose of vaccine, and 3,998,614 people were fully immunised with two doses of Pfizer, Moderna or AstraZeneca, or the single-dose Janssen.
Active cases
According to the latest data, there are currently 2,228 active cases in the community, which represents 0.43% of the total positives.
Outbreaks
Since the last update, there have been two reported outbreaks with 10 or more associated cases: Monovar with 12 cases of social origin; and Aldaia, 11 cases of educational origin.
