ARCHIVED - Almost all Schengen countries now recommend against travelling to Spain
Many countries impose quarantine on travellers returning from Spain and some advise against travelling to specific areas
International travel is becoming increasingly complicated as countries attempt to limit the exposure of their citizens to the virus and minimise the risk of new Covid positives entering their country and as the number of cases within Europe continues to climb more and more countries are imposing restrictions.
The elevated number of new cases in Spain is leading to further restrictions being placed on travel to Spain and almost all Schengen countries have issued recommendations against travelling to certain areas of Spain, and some have also imposed restrictions to control the arrival of travellers or tourists from Spain.
At the moment, only five countries - Luxembourg, Poland, Portugal, Romania and Sweden - have not advised their citizens not to travel to Spain or certain Spanish regions for fear of the spread of the coronavirus.
On a daily basis, the Spanish embassies collect information on the policies applied in each country and prepare a compilation.
These are the recommendations and restrictions decreed by the 22 Schengen countries t the beginning of the week commencing 10th August:
Germany
Recommends not to travel to: Aragon, Catalonia, Basque Country, Madrid and Navarra, which it considers "risk areas" and requires quarantine or submitting a negative test performed 48 hours before travelling.
Austria
Requires presentation of a negative PCR test or 10-day quarantine for all Spain except the Canary Islands and the Balearic Islands
Belgium
Does not allow travel to Aragon, Navarra, Barcelona and Lleida. Alert due to the increase in cases and recommends taking a test and a quarantine for those who travel from Madrid, Girona, Tarragona, Basque Country, La Rioja, Soria, Guadalajara, Castellón, Valencia, Murcia, Almería, Balearic Islands.
Bulgaria
There are no restrictions for EU and Schengen countries.
Cyprus
Obliges travellers coming from Spain, France, Italy, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, and Greece to present a negative result in a PCR.
Croatia
Recommends avoiding all trips to the Czech Republic, Andorra, Denmark, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Estonia and Malta, and advises avoiding unnecessary trips to Spain and the rest of the EU and Schengen.
Denmark
Recommends not to travel and prohibits entry except in exceptional cases to travellers from Spain, Andorra, Luxembourg, Romania and Bulgaria.
Slovakia
It considers Spain "low risk", although it makes recommendations for Aragon, Catalonia and Navarra.
Slovenia
Mandatory quarantine for travelers from Aragon, Navarra, Catalonia and the Basque Country.
No entry restrictions for those from Andalusia, Asturias, the Canary Islands, Castilla-La Mancha, Ceuta, Extremadura, Galicia and Melilla.
