ARCHIVED - Andrea still has 87 donkeys and 37 dogs to feed as lockdown is extended....can you help
It costs thousands a month to feed and care for all of these animals and lockdown has cut off any chance of finding revenue by normal means
What an incredible period of upheaval we're all going through at the moment.
Although for most of us the lockdown is difficult and stressful, wondering how to fill the day and remain sane, for others the lockdown is equally stressful with a completely different set of worries and unfortunately for the animal charities that have worked so hard in this region for so many years, trying to find funds to feed the animals they care for is proving to be difficult beyond their worst nightmares.
The media is full of news about how the coronacrisis is going to affect our bank balances, the long-term economic effects for business, how much our pensions are going to devalue, how many people will die, but what about the devastating effects on charities and all those who are such a backbone of our community life, what about them?????????
Well, the truth is, a lot of the charities around whom our social lives revolve in this region are in trouble, because the State of Emergency declared by the Spanish government which has now been extended officially today until April 12th, has left them with no shops to raise funds, no table top sales to raise funds, no fundraising events to raise funds and volunteers locked down in their homes, unable to get out there and rattle a tin.
And even a closed shop costs money to run; rents must still be paid, water and electric bills must still be paid and for the charities working with animals, food and vets must be paid.
Expats in the south of the Murcia Region are all familiar with the sight of Andrea collecting donations for Andrea's Animal Rescue or taking one of her donkeys along to the Christmas carol service at the St. Nicholas Ecumenical Church on Camposol, although few see her when she's driving up to Valencia with a donkey at death's door in the boot on a Saturday afternoon or sitting with a sick animal at 3am in the morning out in the stable.
She has 81 donkeys, 37 dogs and an unspecified quantity of rabbits and other rescues in her care at the moment and she desperately needs your help.
Last week she put out an appeal and was delighted that some kind supporters responded with donations of money and even animal feed, and sends a MASSIVE THANK YOU out to those who were so kind.
But she has a lot of mouths to feed, and now she has muddy mouths to feed, as extra bedding is required to replace the saturated mess left behind by this week's torrential rains and with 2 more weeks of lockdown ahead, the shops must remain closed and she has no means of finding any extra money.
Can you help???
Can you donate SOMETHING, ANYTHING to the charity to help them through this crisis and pay for their weekly food delivery?
