A semi-dramatized version of “Doña Francisquita” by Vives at the regional auditorium in Murcia

The opening event of the 2019-20 Region of Murcia Symphony Orchestra (OSRM) season at the Auditorio Víctor Villegas in Murcia was postponed due to the adverse meteorological conditions on the original date of 13th September, and has now been re-scheduled for 13th October.

The event is a performance of the orchestra alongside the Coral Creveillentina choir of “Doña Francisquita” by Vives, in a semi-dramatized version with the orchestra under the baton of resident conductor Virginia Martínez.

The Coral Crevillentina was founded as long ago as 1891, originally as a male voice choir, before it was reorganized to include women after the Civil War (1936-39). Even the war, though, did not interrupt performances, and over the last 128 years various awards have been won as far afield as France and Belgium as well as in Spain.

Among the choir’s own productions have been Rigoletto, Lucia of Lammermoor, Cavallería Rusticana, La Traviata, The Barber of Seville, Carmen and The Flying Dutchman as well as numerous “zarzuela” light operas. Since 1991 they have held their own annual festival of opera and zarzuela and have also recorded on numerous occasions for Philips.

Admission to this concert is free of charge for renewed season ticket holders for the 2019-20 OSRM cycle and is priced at just 10 euros for other members of the public.
