ARCHIVED - 21 Covid-related deaths: Valencia Covid update April 22
The Valencia region's Ministry of Health has reported 4,017 new cases in 72 hours
Just weeks after the Ministry of Health assured the Valencia region was emerging from the sixth wave of the pandemic, and just days after Spain scrapped the mandatory use of masks indoors, the pandemic health data does not look as healthy as would be expected.
In the first update of the week on Tuesday, data showed infections had spiked 80% in a week, and whilst new infections have fallen to figures similar to those reported two weeks ago, there are still on average more than 1,000 diagnoses on a daily basis.
On a more positive note, hospital admissions have fallen.
The regional Ministry of Health has reported 4,017, lower than the 4,166 infections on April 13 (also over a three-day period). This brings the total number of positives since the beginning of the pandemic to 1,380,219 people.
By province, 893 have been reported in Castellón (167,753 in total), 1,224 in Alicante (474,111 in total) and 1,900 in Valencia (738,355 in total).
Of these new infections, 1,833 are people over 60 years of age. By province: 393 are registered in Castellón, 543 in Alicante and 897 in Valencia.
Hospitalisations
There are currently 622 people admitted to hospital with Covid, 45 less than 72 hours ago, 34 of them in ICU (no change): 138 in the province of Castellón, four in ICU; 178 in the province of Alicante, 11 of them in ICU; and 306 in the province of Valencia, 19 in ICU.
The Ministry of Health is no longer providing data relating to the number of active cases or how many people have overcome the virus since the last update.
Fatalities
21 Covid-related deaths have been reported since the last update, all of which occurred in the last seven days. This brings the overall death toll since the start of the health crisis in the Valencia region to 9,249: 1,073 in the province of Castellón, 3,512 in Alicante and 4,664 in Valencia.
The deceased are 11 women aged between 75 and 103-years-old and 10 men aged between 75 and 97.
