Works by Mussorgsky, Tchaikovsky and Strauss at the main auditorium in Murcia
The second event of the 2019-20 Grand Concerts cycle at the Auditorio Víctor Villegas in the city of Murcia features the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra conducted by Andrés Orozco-Estrada and violinist Fumiaki Miura.
On the programme are Mussorgsky’s Night on Bald Mountain, Tchaikovsky’s violin concerto and Don Juan and The Knight of the Rose by Strauss.
Conductor Andrés Orozco-Estrada is not only the resident conductor at the Frankfurt Radio Symphony but also the chief invited conductor with the London Philharmonic Orchestra. He was born in Colombia but trained in Vienna and is one of the most widely respected conductors of his generation.
He first rose to international acclaim in 2004 while leading the Tonkünstler orchestra at the Musikverein in Vienna, where he became known as “The Miracle of Vienna”, and has also worked with the Houston Symphony, the Orquesta Sinfónica de Euskadi, the Vienna Philharmonic, the French National, the Münich Philharmonic, the LSO and the Oslo Philharmonic among many others.
Fumiaki Miura, born in Tokyo, trained in his home city before moving to Vienna as a teenager. In 2009 he won the prestigious Joseph Joachim Hannover International Violin Competition, not only the youngest ever winner but also taking the prizes awarded by both critics and audiences.
Since then the range of orchestras with which he has performed includes the NDR Radiophilharmonie Hannover, the NDR Sinfonieorchester Hamburg, the Prague Philharmonia, the Tchaikovsky Symphony Orchestra, the Warsaw Philharmonic and the Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra. Conductors he has worked with include Valery Gergiev, Pinchas Zukerman, Krzysztof Penderecki, Kenichiro Kobayashi and Terry Fisher, and his most recent performances include those with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra (Pinchas Zukerman) and a tour of Japan with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra (Vasily Petrenko). Last season he collaborated with the Mariinsky Theatre Orchestra, the Los Ángeles Philharmonic, the NHK Symphony Orchestra, the Japan Philharmonic and others, as well as presenting his own chamber music festival at Suntory Hall, Fumiaki Miura and Friends.
The 1704 Stradivarius he plays was generously loaned to him by the Munetsugu Foundation.
