ARCHIVED ARTICLE Refuse lorry crew complain about worsening state of Camposol bin areas
The Mazarrón Councillor for Camposol Silvana Buxton has received a complaint from the Council refuse lorry crew about the conditions they regularly encounter around the refuse collection areas on the Camposol development.
While it is only to be expected that sometimes the refuse crew find dustbin areas untidy with rubbish around the bins which they will clear up as far as possible, the crew leader says in Camposol it has become the norm, making the collection route take longer and the crew having to tidy and sweep up after rubbish is thoughtlessly discarded, which is not part of their job remit.
The crew leader spoke to Councillor Buxton at the collection point at the roundabout near the hotel, pointing out that the crew were having to pick up building rubble, broken glass panels and other detritus strewn across the road and pavement. They added that the problem is not isolated to that location, and that much of the time collection points can be piled high with rubbish spread around the surrounding area while bins at nearby locations are half or totally empty.
The problem doesn’t seem to have gone un-noticed by homeowners with the issue being raised on social media platforms, where blame is attached to a thoughtless minority and errant builders just looking for an easy way to dump rubble. The simple way for homeowners to alleviate the problem is if a rubbish or recycling receptacle is full or overflowing to go to the next point or find a lesser used disposal point off the main road: all receptacles are for the use of municipal homeowners.
Mazarrón Council do operate recycling as well as rubbish collection, cardboard (collapsed) and paper should be deposited in the blue-lidded containers, plastics, liquid cartons and tins/cans should be compacted and deposited in yellow-lidded containers, with glass vessels (not crockery or porcelain) in the domed pods. Other household refuse should be deposited in the green (wheeled) container, garden vegetation waste in the green skips provided and items of furniture can be left near collection points for monthly pickups or by phoning 698 333 294 (in Spanish).
Other waste, building rubble etc should be disposed of at the ecoparque on the Mazarrón-Águilas road, distance km 2, paraje las Pedreras, phone 693 750 496 (in Spanish) or via proper commercial channels.
Mazarrón Policia Local can take action against fly-tippers but will need evidence. Anyone witnessing improper dumping should not confront the perpetrator, but should take down vehicle registration where applicable or take a photograph which can be reported to the local Police by phone, in person or via their Facebook page. The Police have also confirmed that the problem is considered serious and attracts a fine of between €6,000 and €12,000.
