The 14-day incidence rate in the Murcia Region has dropped below the Spanish national average
While health authorities across Spain are warning that a new wave of coronavirus may be just over the horizon with the summer season fast approaching, in Murcia the indicators all point in the right direction: for the second week running, hospitalisations and daily infections are down, while the cumulative incidence rate has dropped below the country’s national average.
Coronavirus infections
The Region of Murcia has reported 1,144 new cases of coronavirus since the weekend, 284 of which were registered on Monday June 6. This is a significant decrease on the 326 infections diagnosed on the same day last week and brings the total number of Covid cases since the beginning of the pandemic to 430,925, of which 69,735 have been diagnosed in people over the age of 60.
Cumulative incidence rate
The 14-day incidence rate continues its steady decline and has dropped to 551.10 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, compared to 711.78 just a week ago.
This brings Murcia below the Spanish national average of 586.71 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.
Hospitalisations and fatalities
There are currently 185 people admitted for Covid in Murcian hospitals, 26 fewer than in the last update published by the regional health authorities. Of these, eight patients are being treated for more serious conditions in the Region’s intensive care units (ICUs), a decrease of six.
Sadly, an additional 10 Covid-related fatalities were reported on June 6, which brings the overall death toll since the start of the health crisis to 2,326.
Covid testing
To date, 2,977,081 PCR and antigen detection tests have been carried out in the Region of Murcia.
Vaccination data
Since the last update, 91.93% of the entire population of the Murcia Region has had a least one dose. In addition, 84.67% of people are now double jabbed.
