Hospitalisations have also decreased, although this indicator has now reached the medium risk level in Murcia
In the days following Easter week the Region of Murcia, the pandemic trend followed most of the rest of Spain: Covid incidence doubled amongst the older age groups and hospital and intensive care admissions fluctuated wildly, while coronavirus-related fatalities continued to mount up.
Now as we approach a new month, the data has stabilised somewhat and although daily infections remain high, hospital pressure appears to be lessening once more.
Coronavirus infections
The regional health authorities registered 932 new cases of Covid on Thursday April 28, bringing the number of new infections below 1,000 for the first time in several days. It should be remembered, however, that these cases are only in those aged over 60 and other vulnerable groups, so if the general population were taken into account, the figure would be much higher.
Since the start of the health crisis, a total of 407,350 Covid infections have been registered in the Region of Murcia.
Cumulative incidence rate
The 14-day cumulative incidence rate has shot up to 1,484 cases per 100,000 inhabitants from the 824 infections registered at the last update, just 6 days ago.
Hospitalisations and fatalities
The number of hospitalisations has fallen to 258, 7 fewer than on Wednesday, while the number of people being treated for more serious conditions in the Region’s ICUs is at the lowest level of the past few months. Currently, there are only 6 patients in intensive care, one fewer than the previous day.
Crucially though, Murcia is again following the national trend and its hospital risk level has moved up into medium risk after weeks in the low category. Intensive care rates are still a long way from the 10% occupancy that would pull the community into the medium risk category, however, and restrictions are not going to be reintroduced unless something indicates that the circulation of Covid in Spain is “uncontrolled.”
Another four people lost their lives to Covid on Thursday, which brings the total number of fatalities since the beginning of the pandemic to 2,247.
Vaccination data
Since the last update, 91.84% of the entire population of the Murcia Region has had a least one dose. In addition, 84.41% of people are now double jabbed.
Data at a glance from Thursday April 28:
Total positives diagnosed in the last 24-hour period: 932
