There are 79 fewer Covid patients in hospitals across Alicante province and the rest of the region
Pressure on hospitals continues to fall as the pandemic maintains its downward trajectory in the Valencia region with the number of Covid-patients admitted to falling below 1,000 for the first time this year.
There are currently 79 fewer people with severe coronavirus symptoms warranting hospital treatment than on Tuesday, and five less crtiically ill people in ICU.
According to the latst update from the Ministry of Health, there's been a slight rise in daily infections, but the data remains steady for the moment.
The regional Ministry of Health has reported 4,238 new Covid cases in today's update, a slight upturn on the 3,919 recorded on Tuesday February 22. This brings the total number of positives since the beginning of the pandemic to 1,283,336 people.
By province: 316 have been recorded in Castellón (155,450 in total), 1,050 in Alicante (449,161), 2,872 in Valencia (678,722). The number of unassigned cases has fallen to three after four were assigned to the province of Valencia.
According to the health data, there are currently 42,942 active, down from 47,057 in 24 hours, which represent 3.32% of the total positives.
Hospitalisations
There are currently 986 people admitted to hospital with Covid, 79 fewer than on Tuesday, 108 of them in ICU (five less): 139 in the province of Castellón, 11 in ICU; 299 in the province of Alicante, 34 in ICU; and 548 in the province of Valencia, 63 in ICU.
8,332 people have overcome the virus since the last update, which means the total number of recoveries since the start of the pandemic now stands at 1,242,847.
By provinces, the recoveries are distributed as follows: 151,176 in Castellón, 435,705 in Alicante and 655,908 in Valencia. There are now 61 number of unassigned cases has dropped to 58.
Fatalities
21 Covid-related deaths have been reported since Tuesday. All of the deaths occurred in the last seven days with the exception of one in January, and bring the overall death toll since the start of the health crisis in the Valencia region to 8,988: 1,035 in the province of Castellón, 3,425 in Alicante and 4,528 in Valencia.
The deceased are 12 women aged between 71 and 96, and nine men between 35 and 89-years-old.
