ARCHIVED - Incidence rate falls almost 80 points in a week: Valencia Covid update May 31
As we move into June, new infections in the Valencia region have fallen below 3,500 for the first time in three weeks
As the region bids farewell to May, all Covid indicators continue to move in the right direction and at a more notable rate than over the last 10 days.
Hospital admissions have slumped with 30 less patients on wards since last Friday May 27, and Covid-related deaths are the lowest in quite some time.
The all important 14-day incidence has also dropped by almost 80 points in the last week.
Coronavirus cases
The regional Ministry of Health has confirmed 3,425 new cases, a sharp decrease on the 4,728 infections reported a week ago o May 24.
By provinces, 498 in Castellón (176,555 in total), 1,158 in Alicante (493,689 in total) and 1,802 in Valencia (768,836 in total).
Of these new cases, 1,629 are people over 60 years of age, lower than the 1,822 comfirmed last Friday and almost half the 2,227 reported a week ago: 296 in Castellón, 535 in Alicante and 798 in Valencia.
Cumulative incidence rate
The 14-day cumulative incidence per 100,000 inhabitants has fallen from 702.11 cases a week ago to 626.01 and remains below the national average (728.22).
Hospitalisations
There are currently 669 Covid patients in hospitals across the Valencia region, 30 less than last Friday, 35 of them in the ICU (3 more than four days ago): 121 in the province of Castellón, 4 in ICU; 226 in the province of Alicante, 9 of them in the ICU; and 322 in the province of Valencia, 22 in the ICU.
The Ministry of Health is no longer providing data relating to the number of active cases or how many people have overcome the virus.
Fatalities
Seven deaths have been reported reported in the last 15 days with the exception of one in April (11 less than were reported last Friday) – five men aged between 73 and 95-years-old and two women aged 806 and 834. This brings the total number of deaths since the start of the pandemic to 9,416: 1,101 in the province of Castellón, 3,576 in Alicante and 4,739 in Valencia.
