ARCHIVED ARTICLE
Infections have fallen overall across the region compared to a week ago, but have risen in Alicante province
New infections have increased once again in Alicante province, exceeding 2,000 since last Friday, although they have fallen across the region as a whole compared to a week ago.
And in line with the rest of the country, hospitalisations are continuing in an upward trend with an average of eight new admissions every day over the last four days. And although it's a far cry from the 37 fatalities reported in Andalucía over the same period, there have been nine Covid-related deaths in the region since the last Ministry of Health update prior to the weekend.
Coronavirus cases
There are more than 2,000 new positive cases of coronavirus in the province of Alicante since last Friday, according to data published by the Regional Ministry of Health. In the Valencian Community as a whole, there were 5,708 which is an improvement on the 6,049 new infections reported a week ago over the same period.
By provinces, 770 of the new infections are in Castellón (172,357 in total), 2,048 in Alicante (483,711 in total) and 2,889 in Valencia (752,175 in total); plus one unassigned case.
By age, 2,519 were people over 60 years of age (also down on the 2,993 reported a week ago): 411 from Castellón, 915 from Alicante and 1,193 from Valencia.
Hospitalisations
There are currently 693 Covid patients in hospitals across the Valencia region, 32 more than seven days ago, 38 of them in the ICU (up two): 116 in the province of Castellón, 6 in the ICU; 230 in the province of Alicante, 14 of them in the ICU; and 347 in the province of Valencia, 18 in the ICU.
The Ministry of Health is no longer providing data relating to the number of active cases or how many people have overcome the virus.
Fatalities
A further nine deaths have been reported reported in the last seven days (four were reported last Tuesday) – five men aged between 61 and 96-years-old and four women aged between 73 and 96. This brings the total number of deaths since the start of the pandemic to 9,315: 1,089 in the province of Castellón, 3,533 in the province of Alicante and 4,693 in the province of Valencia.
