ARCHIVED - The pandemic claims 3 lives: Murcia Covid update April 22
Hospital pressure has eased off slightly as the incidence rate in the Region continues to climb
In the same week that Spain has scrapped indoor masks in the majority of venues, the pandemic outlook in the Region of Murcia is far from positive; daily infections have stabilised around the 800-case mark, when at the beginning of the month this figure had dropped to almost 200.
The regional health authorities registered 792 Covid cases on Thursday April 21, which is a slight decrease on Wednesday’s data. This brings the total number of infections in Murcia since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic to 401,831.
Since the start of the health crisis, a total of 2,823,428 PCR and antigen tests have been carried out.
Cumulative incidence rate
The 14-day incidence rate in the over 60s population has shot up to 824 cases per 100,000 inhabitants having barely breached the 600-mark less than a week ago. Moreover, the average incidence of infections over a 7 day period now stands at 471 cases, which indicates that the figure in likely to keep climbing in the coming days.
There are currently 196 people admitted to hospitals in Murcia with Covid, seven fewer than on the previous day, while 10 people are being treated in the Region’s ICUs for more serious symptoms (down from 11 yesterday).
In the last 24 hours, three people have lost their lives to Covid, bringing the overall death toll to 2,231.

Since the last update, 91.81% of the entire population of the Murcia Region has had a least one dose. In addition, 84.31% of people are now double jabbed.
