Click HereThe old watchtower of Torre de los Caballos was built during the 16th century to warn the population of imminent raids by the Berbers who constantly crossed the Mediterranean from northern Africa at the time, and as such is one of various historic structures which were erected in the area of Mazarrón to protect the south of Christian Spain against Moorish incursions.
In addition, the beach of Bolnuevo was the scene of the “Miracle of Bolnuevo”, an event which led to the local adoration of the Virgen de la Purísima Concepción, the patron of the municipality of Mazarrón. It was her miraculous intervention which prevented one of the Berber raids from succeeding, and this tour explains the events of a day which is still celebrated every year with a “Romería” between Bolnuevo and Mazarrón.
The one-hour visit begins at 19.00 in Bolnuevo and bookings and further information are available through the tourist office in Puerto de Mazarrón (telephone 968 594426, email oficinaturismomazarron@gmail.com). Online booking normally opens only a week or so before the tours are held.
The wearing of facemasks is recommended and participants should bring drinking water and wear appropriate footwear. Those registering must give ID details, and under no circumstances may people join without prior registration.
The number of participants is limited to 40.
