ARCHIVED - Big dip in daily infections: Murcia Covid update September 8
ARCHIVED ARTICLE
All of the essential coronavirus indicators have seen another decline this week in the Region of Murcia
The Murcia Region appears to be rapidly overcoming this latest wave of the coronavirus pandemic and, having lingered too long close to the top of the list, the cumulative incidence rate this week is just 30 cases shy of the Spanish national average.
Importantly, the number of critically ill patients being treated in intensive care has fallen by two in the latest report published by the regional health authorities on Wednesday September 7.
Coronavirus infections
The Region of Murcia has registered a total of 160 cases of coronavirus since the last update on Monday, 77 of which were reported on Wednesday September 7, which brings the overall number of infections since the beginning of the pandemic to 454,506.
Of the total cases, 83,344 have been diagnosed in people over the age of 60.
Cumulative incidence rate
The latest data provided by the regional health authorities on Wednesday show that the 7-day cumulative incidence rate has increased slightly to stand at 91.75 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, which would not be considered unusual for this late stage of a pandemic wave.
More importantly, the average incidence over a two-week period reflects a slowdown, dropping ever so slightly in the last couple of days from 182.29 cases to 181.98 today.
Hospitalisations have taken another welcome dip, dropping from 108 patients to just 96. There has also been another drop in intensive care occupation this week, with the number of chronically ill patients going from 9 to 7.
Two more Covid-related fatalities have been registered, bringing the overall death toll since the start of the health crisis to 2,430.
Covid testing
The Region of Murcia has carried out 3,137,662 PCR and antigen coronavirus detection tests.
Vaccination data
Since the last update, 91.84% of the entire population of the Murcia Region has had a least one dose. In addition, 84.87% of people are now double jabbed.
