ARCHIVED - Breakdown of suspected Coronavirus cases in the Murcia Region
ARCHIVED ARTICLE
There are over 7,500 suspected cases, emphasising the importance of observing the lockdown and staying at home
Information has been released today detailing the number of patients who have called the regional helpline and are believed to be suffering from coronavirus, although it has not been possible to test yet due to the lack of testing kits. See below for a breakdown of cases by health area. It is not possible to break these down by municipality, only by area,
The biggest problem we have been facing here is lack of testing equipment and the slow pace of analysing tests. This morning the regional health authority confirmed that although four testing stations have been created to undertake rapid tests, the kits themselves have yet to arrive, although the health service is preparing for the huge backlog of potential cases. For the first time we have been told today just how widespread the number of potential cases are in our region, highlighting the importance of remaining in lockdown.
The health service has this morning revealed that we have 7,502 possible cases here in the region, all identified telephonically, but untested due to the lack of testing capacity.
All of these are being monitored by phone, along with the further 7,942 people who are known close contacts of the contagious cases. All of these people have been evaluated by phone and are being monitored by phone, ensuring that should their cases become serious or symptoms develop further that rapid action can be taken and their immediate contacts isolated further to ensure that the case is contained.
By using this method the chance of these people infecting other members of the public is minimal and the pressure on the health service lessened. Hopefully it will also help to limit the further spread of the virus and contain the known cases.
There are 385 officially confirmed cases in the Murcia Region on Tuesday lunchtime, 99 of whom are hospitalised. 26 people are in intensive care and 286 have been isolated at home with mild cases after being tested.
93 of the confirmed cases are health workers.
The death count is now 4 people, the latest case a 45 year old man and just one person has recovered to date.
Nationally, the figures are blood curdling, with just under 40,000 confirmed cases across Spain and 2,694 fatalities.
If we even start to consider that the same situation we have here in Murcia with regard to the numbers of suspected cases may be multiplied across Spain, this means that tens of thousands of people are potentially contagious and how many more cases have yet to emerge.
It cannot be stressed enough how important it is to maintain the lockdown and avoid contact with other people as this virus runs its course.
It may be boring sitting inside, but hopefully these figures will re-enforce the importance of the lockdown and why we must all respect it and STAY INDOORS.
