ARCHIVED - Calasparra hottest place in Murcia Region on Monday with 36.7 degrees C.
ARCHIVED ARTICLE
These temperatures are considered average for July so the Murcia Region had no temperature alerts at all on Monday!
It was certainly hot in the Murcia region on Monday and temperatures comfortably exceeded the maximum temperatures predicted in several areas of the region.
The north-west was hottest, and although it was forecast that the Segura river Valley or Ricote valley as it’s often called was going to be hot, and indeed it was, it’s certainly a surprise to see Alhama de Murcia up there in second place with 36.5 degrees Celsius!.
More of the same is predicted for the region on Tuesday, although the interior areas of the region will be slightly cooler, and the coast slightly hotter.
For large swathes of Spain Tuesday will be the hottest day of the year so far, but Murcia has no heat alerts and will miss the extreme temperatures forecast for other areas.
Be grateful that we miss the extremes of interior Andalusia at this time of year; yesterday Huelva was the hottest place in Spain recording 43.6, Sevilla 42.7, Córdoba 42.7 and Badajoz 42.5; all of the top ten temperatures in Spain were in excess of 42 degrees Celsisus.
Take care during these spells of hot weather
Every year our regional governments issue warnings and run campaigns to minimise the risk to the elderly and infirm in particular, the main thrust of which is:
-Drink lots of water
-Stay out of the sun as much as possible and be particularly careful if working out in the sun
-Minimise your exposure to the sun
-Have a siesta during the hottest period
-Always wear high factor sunscreen, hat and quality sunglasses
-Wear loose clothing
-Be careful when jumping into cold water after exposure to hot sun, cool the body by splashing with water first; this can shock the body causing dizziness and even loss of consciousness; this often leads to drowning in the sea
- Make sure summer visitors are aware how dangerous this hot sun can be and don´t overdo the sun bathing!
- Be aware of the increased fire risk
- UVA is just as dangerous as the direct sun and clear skies mean high UVA levels, so always wear good quality sunglasses; don´t buy cheap rubbish from street markets, particularly for children.
