2,685 new Covid infections across the region's three provinces, with 867 in Alicante
The fifth wave of the pandemic continues to take hold in the Valencia region with the Ministry of Health reporting 2,685 new diagnosis - up from 1,876 on Tuesday - and four deaths in the last seven days.
The 14-day cumulative incidence rate now stands at 586 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, below the national average of 702, and that of Catalonia (1,088) and Madrid (718), but higher than the cumulative rate in Murcia (424) and Andalusia (540).
New cases: 2,685 new cases of coronavirus confirmed by PCR or antigen testing, bringing the total number of positives to 456,844 people. By provinces: 867 in Alicante (163,242 in total); 1,516 in Valencia (246,264 in total); and 302 in Castellón (47,336 in total).
Hospitals: There are currently 689 Covid patients being treated in Valencian hospitals, of whom 97 are in ICU: 152 in the province of Alicante, 26 in iCU; 452 in Valencia, 59 of them in ICU; and 85 in Castellón, 12 in ICU.
Recoveries: 2,598 people have recovered since the last update, meaning 431,038 people have been given the all-clear since the start of the pandemic: 155,181 in Alicante province; 231,129 in Valencia; and 44,669 in Castellón.
Fatalities: There have sadly been four reported deaths in the last seven days, meaning the total now stands at 7,492: 2,854 in Alicante; 3,826 in Valencia; and 812 in Castellón.
Active cases: There are currently 29,776 active cases, which represent 6.36 per cent of the total positives.
Vaccinations: A total of 3,206,179 people have now received at least one dose and 2,644,872 are fully immunised. By provinces: 949,683 in Alicante; 1,381,914 in Valencia; and 313,275 in Castellón.
Outbreaks: Seven outbreaks with 10 or more associated cases, including three in Alicante province:
Orihuela - 10 cases, social origin;
Almoradí - 11 cases, social origin;
Novelda - 11 cases, social origin.
