ARCHIVED - Celebrate fishing history in Aguilas with the new Urban Aquaculture Route
ARCHIVED ARTICLE Something fishy is happening in Águilas, with the introduction of a new ‘Ruta Acuícola’
A new Urban Aquaculture Route has been inaugurated in Águilas, with informative panels around the town explaining the important history of the aquaculture industry in the town.
The Mayor of Águilas, Mari Carmen Moreno, the Councillor for Culture, María Dolores Simó, the Councillor for Tourism, Ginés Desiderio Navarro, and the Councillor for Fisheries, Bartolomé Hernández, together with the Director General of Fisheries and other members of the municipal corporation, all participated in the inauguration of the new ‘Ruta Acuícola’.
This route aims to disseminate information and highlight the history of aquaculture in Águilas. With the six panels, visitors to the town are led on a journey through the history of aquaculture, its characteristics and the importance of this sector.
The circuit is complemented by the seafaring route inaugurated last year, with the aim of promoting the culture and traditions of the municipality and making them available to the population. With these initiatives, the town also aims to increase its attractiveness to tourists, as well as raising awareness of the need to conserve the local environment.
This action is subsidised by the European Maritime and Fisheries Social Fund (FEMP) and by the Directorate General for Livestock, Fisheries and Aquaculture through the Local Action Group for Fisheries and Aquaculture of the Region of Murcia GALPEMUR.
