Corvera International Airport project, praised for creativity, innovation and sustainability
The International Airport project has been honoured as the initiative which best projects the city of Murcia nationally and internationally, as part of the awards given in the "Premios Capital Murcia" organized by the" Capital" magazine.
The airport project has been singled out as an example of a project based on creativity, innovation and sustainability.
The new infrastructure has been selected for the "Premio Promocion" as an activity of business reference which promotes social- economic activity in the region of Murcia.
The General Secretary of public works said that the regional government was pushing hard for a future with increased economic development possibilities for the region, due to the continued improvement in communications, such as that which this airport represented
He went on, "It also represents an entrance gateway into the region which will generate wealth, through the creation of employment and increased commercial and tourism capacity, as well as contributing to a modern image,a faithful reflection of the effort and work carried out by the regional executive."
The awards ceremony was organized by Capital magazine to select the businesses which are doing the most to promote social and economic development in the region.
The candidates for this prize are selected by the Chamber of Commerce, business organizations, regional government, Murcia council and the banks.
OK.
So now we see why the economy is in such a mess if all these important people and organisations are holding up the airport project as being a role model which we should all emulate and admire.
An ill-conceived business project which ran out of financing before it was even a third of the way through its build, and which has only been able to obtain the financing required to finish the job after the regional government stepped in to save it..
A project which has been dogged by mis-management and lapsed deadlines.
A project which is now being scrutinized by Brussels to see if the loan guarantees given by the regional government breaches EU regulations , and which was hurriedly pushed through and approved in the full knowledge of the regional government that what it was doing was contrary to EU regulations.
A project which the whole world now knows to be in jeopardy because somebody tried to pull a fast one over the finance minister, who fortunately had the sense to read the small print before she signed the papers in front of her.
A project which many question as not being viable given the number of airports already servicing this area which still have capacity to take more traffic.
So now we know what were doing wrong. We need to stop trying to run this as a viable business which has been built following extensive customer research and endless long hours of hard work , follow the airport project role model instead and run out of money, then bingo, somebody will give us a prize for being a good business and throw loads of money at us.
Spains a great place to be in business when you understand how to work the system!
Meanwhile, still no news from Brussels.
