20 coronavirus-related fatalities have been reported in Alicante province and the rest of the region since Tuesday August 30
The Valencia Region has reached a grim milestone with the number of Covid-related deaths since the start of the global pandemic reaching the 10,000 mark.
Fatalities have refused to budge and remain in the two digits, fluctuating on pretty much a weekly basis. The figure fell to 11 in the last update on Tuesday August 30, only to spike at 20 in the latest pandemic data released by the Regional Ministry of Health today (Friday September 2).
In contrast, all other important indicators, in particular new infections and hospital admissions, continue to fall.
Coronavirus cases
The Regional Ministry of Health has confirmed 1,146 1,172 new coronavirus cases since the last update on Tuesday August 30, down on the 1,172 infections confirmed three days ago and 1,447 reported on August 26.
By provinces: 192 in Castellón (189,971 in total), 306 in Alicante (525,449 in total) and 648 in Valencia (829,067 in total).
Of these new cases, 586 are people over 60 years of age (down from 657 on Tuesday and 770 a week ago): Of the new cases in over 60s, 98 from Castellón, 192 from Alicante and 296 from Valencia.
Hospitalisations
There are currently 321 Covid patients in hospitals across the Valencia region, considerably fewer than just three days ago when there were 432 people on the Region's wards and August 26 when 615 coronavirus patients occupied hospital beds. Twenty of these patients are in ICU. By province: 43 in the province of Castellón, 3 in the ICU; 99 in the province of Alicante, 7 of them in the ICU, and 179 in the province of Valencia, 10 in the ICU.
Fatalities
There have been 20 Covid-related deaths reported since the last update on Tuesday when 11 fatalities were confirmed, All of the 20 deaths occurred within the last 7 days.
The deceased are 14 men aged between 67 and 95-years-old and six women aged between 40 and 88-years-old. This brings the total number of deaths since the start of the pandemic to 10,000: 1,181 in the province of Castellón, 3,819 in Alicante and 5,000 in Valencia.
