ARCHIVED - Covid incidence skyrockets: Murcia pandemic update June 28
ARCHIVED ARTICLE
The 14-day average incidence in the Murcia Region is once again approaching the national average
The experts across Spain are debating whether or not the country is in the grip of a seventh wave, along with the seriousness of the several new Omicron variants which are quickly becoming dominant. Meanwhile, the Region of Murcia is experiencing see-sawing data, and no longer boasts one of the lowest cumulative incidence rates in the country.
Coronavirus infections
Since the last update five days ago, the regional health authorities have reported 1,163 new coronavirus cases, 735 of which were registered on Monday June 27.
This brings the total number of infections since the beginning of the pandemic to 436,571, of which 72,658 were diagnosed in people over the age of 60.
Cumulative incidence rate
Since Thursday, the 14-day cumulative incidence rate has risen to 669.71 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, an increase of 167.05 points.
A worrying development is that the average incidence of infection over a seven day period now stands at 404.20. Since this is well over 50% of the 14-day figure, there is a strong possibility that infection numbers will continue to rise in the coming days.
Hospitalisations and fatalities
There are currently 198 people hospitalised for Covid in Murcian hospitals, six fewer than in the last update, while nine patients are being treated for more serious conditions in the Region’s intensive care units-an increase of two since last Thursday.
A single new Covid-related fatality has been reported, bringing the overall death toll since the start of the health crisis to 2,340.
Covid testing
In all, 3,019,691 PCR and antigen tests have been carried out in Murcia.
Data at a glance from Monday June 27:
Total positives diagnosed in the last 24-hour period: 735
