ARCHIVED - Covid hospitalisations increase as daily infections decline: Murcia coronavirus update June 24
ARCHIVED ARTICLE
The cumulative incidence rate in the Murcia Region remains below the Spanish national average
Pandemic figures are on the rise all across Europe with many experts fearing that the dreaded seventh wave isn’t too far over the horizon. In comparison to the rest of Spain, Murcia is keeping its cumulative incidence rate under control and daily infections have actually dropped in the past few days, as have intensive care admissions.
However, general hospitalisations have risen considerably.
Coronavirus infections
The Region of Murcia registered a total of 756 new cases of coronavirus in the last two days, 375 of which were reported on Wednesday June 22. This is a good decrease on the 449 daily infections logged in Tuesday’s update.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, a total of 434,734 people have tested positive for Covid and 71,453 of these cases were diagnosed in people over the age of 60.
A worrying development is that the average incidence of infection over a seven-day period now stands at 306.35. Since this is well over 50% of the 14-day figure, there is a strong possibility that infection numbers will continue to rise in the coming days.
Hospitalisations and fatalities
There are currently 204 people hospitalised for Covid in Murcia, six more since the last update provided by the health authorities. Of these, seven patients are being treated in the Region’s ICUs for more serious conditions, a reduction of one.
One more Covid-related fatality has been reported, which brings the overall death toll since the start of the health crisis to 2,339.
Covid testing
The Region of Murcia health services have now carried out a total of 3,008,669 antigen and PCR Covid detection tests.
Vaccination data
There has been no vaccination update but as of June 21, 91.93% of the entire population of the Murcia Region has had a least one dose. In addition, 84.67% of people are now double jabbed.
Data at a glance from Wednesday June 22:
Total positives diagnosed in the last 24-hour period: 375
