The 14-day incidence rate across the region's three provinces, including Alicante, has dropped to 295.39 cases per 100.000 people
The Valencia region has maintained its position as one of the three communities with the lowest incidence rates in the country, and today it has fallen below the 300 mark for the first time in over a month.
The region has experienced a rapid surge in cases recently, but this week, the trend has turned and there has been a steady drop over the last seven days, hitting 259.39 according to today's latest update from Spain's Ministry of Health (below the national average of 360.56).
In addition, new cases and hospital admissions have also fallen, news which will be welcomed by the nightlife sector which is awaiting a decision from the regional government over the possible reopening of venues from September 6.
New cases: The 961 new cases (down from 1,290 cases on Wednesday, August 17), bring the total number of people infected since the start of the pandemic to 492,229. By province: 514 are in the province of Alicante (down from 545 yesterday) bringing the total to 178,118; 349 in the province of Valencia (263,092 in total); and 98 in Castellón (51,015 in total).
Hospitalisations: Valencia’s hospitals currently have 529 Covid patients (down from 529), of whom 86 are in intensive care (one less than 24 hours ago): 187 in the province of Alicante (35 in ICU); 246 in the province of Valencia (42 in ICU); and 68 in the province of Castellón (nine in ICU). At the start of the week there were 668 people in hospital with coronavirus.
Discharges: 1,801 patients have been given the all-clear in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of people who have recovered since the start of the pandemic in the region to 481,008. By province: 172,048 in Alicante; 258,905 in Valencia; and 49,997 in Castellón.
Fatalities: According to the latest update, there have been eight Covid-related deaths in the last seven days (down from 12 on Wednesday), bringing the total number of fatalities since the start of the pandemic to 7,613. By province: 2,896 in Alicante; 3,896 in Valencia; and 821 in Castellón.
Vaccines: The health department has confirmed 70.3 per cent of the region's population over 12 years of age have now been fully immunised, which equates to 3,201,312 people, while 3,799,015 have received at least one dose.
Active cases: There are currently 15,062 active cases in the region (down from 15,910 on Wednesday and 18,024 on Monday); which represents 2.99 per cent of the total positives.
There are three reported outbreaks of 10 or more associated cases, all of social origin: Torrevieja with 14 cases; Ontinyent with 12 cases; and L'Olleria, 11 cases.
