Click HereThere was disappointment for sailing fans in Águilas on Sunday when a lack of wind forced the cancellation of the first leg of the 2020 Carnival Regatta, but those who had been hoping to see the racing at first hand were treated instead to a display of aquatic dexterity by various dolphins enjoying the calm water close to the Juan Montiel marina on the western edge of the town, between the Playa de Poniente and the Playa de la Casica Verde.
Over 50 boats had been registered to take part in the 19th edition of the Carnival Regatta, an event which includes a number of initiatives designed to protect the marine environment as Águilas gears up for the spectacular Carnival parades, which this year take place in the last week of February. However, there are high hopes that conditions will be more favourable for the second day of the event on Saturday 22nd February as easterly winds return and promise an exciting day of racing.
