Easter weekend shopping hours in the Region of Murcia: What's open and what is closed
ARCHIVED ARTICLE -
Find out which supermarkets, shopping centres and stores will be closed this April 17 and 18 for the Easter long weekend
The Easter holidays are here and for many people in the Region of Murcia, that means a chance to travel, relax or take care of long-overdue errands. But if you're planning on doing some shopping over the Holy Week long weekend, especially on Holy Thursday (April 17) and Good Friday (April 18), you'll want to know ahead of time which shops and supermarkets are open.
Here’s a breakdown of what to expect so you don’t get caught out by a ‘closed’ sign:
Shopping Centres
Open on Holy Thursday (April 17):
Most of the major shopping centres across the Region of Murcia will open as usual on Thursday. This includes:
Most stores in these centres will be closed, but restaurants and cinemas will often remain open.
The exception: Espacio Mediterráneo and Dos Mares will stay open, operating with normal hours even on Friday.
Other big names:
El Corte Inglés and IKEA will open on Thursday but will close on Good Friday.
Easter Sunday (April 20): Many large retail stores and shopping centres will reopen, so it’s a good day to catch up on anything you missed.
Supermarkets
Here’s how the major supermarket chains will handle the Easter holiday in Murcia:
Mercadona will make a rare exception to its usual policy and open on Holy Thursday, but only from 9am to 3pm. All stores will be closed on Good Friday.
Lidl, Carrefour, Aldi, Alcampo, Consum and Dia follow more flexible schedules. Many of their stores will open on Thursday, though hours may be reduced. On Friday, most will be closed, but select locations, especially in tourist areas, may still open with limited hours.
As always, it’s best to double-check the store’s website or app for your local branch’s exact opening times.
Monday December 8: Day after the Immaculate Conception
Thursday December 25: Christmas Day
Each of Murcia's 45 municipalities also celebrates two local holidays. For example, in the city of Murcia, the Bando de la Huerta falls on Tuesday April 22 this year.
