ARCHIVED - Free bus service to San Pedro del Pinatar Mediterranean beaches
ARCHIVED ARTICLE
There is parking for 250 vehicles in a carpark area from which the bus runs down to the beaches
This year there are well-documented issues with algal growth in parts of the Mar Menor and although the beaches themselves are in excellent condition, and the water is safe for bathing on most beaches, some bathers are not keen to swim with algae in the water, in spite of the ongoing work by beach cleaners to remove the growth from the water.
As a result, the Mediterranean coastal beaches are attracting larger numbers of bathers, causing problems with parking around the main access points.
In san Pedro del Pinatar there are two main blocks of beaches, those in Lo Pagán which are Mar Menor beaches and the wilder Mediterranean beaches which are either side of the marina and run along the front of the Salinas natural salt pans, a natural park. These are fringed with dunes and are an attractive area in which to walk or cycle, but they have one big drawback; lack of parking. There is very limited parking by the marina, and the parking space used throughout the year half way between the marina and main road has very limited parking; at this time of year it is inevitably full very early on.
This free bus service has been set up to run between the natural beaches of La Llana and Torre Derribada and will have a dissuasive car park( a free one, designed to stop visitors parking in lots of inconvenient and illegal places), located between Avenida del Puerto, Avenida Los Flamencos, Calle Fartet and Calle Ánade, (near to the Thalassia Hotel) and has a capacity for approximately 250 vehicles.
From this point a free bus to the beaches of La Llana and Torre Derribada will depart.
Hours are: Monday to Friday every hour, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., and from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., and on weekends every 30 minutes.
Be aware, these are natural beaches and it can be necessary to walk along the beach/ through the dunes, so don´t bring too much clutter; there are no café´s etc on these beaches so bring plenty of water and remember to clear rubbish; this area is a natural park.
