Click HereAs has been the case for a number of years the Águilas Plaza shopping mall is playing its part in the 2020 Carnival celebrations in the town, the most spectacular and best-attended of their kind in the Region of Murcia, providing free parking during the main events, which this year take place during the last week of February.
Declared a fiesta of International Tourist Interest, the Carnival of Águilas attracts thousands of visitors not only from nearby towns in Murcia and the province of Almería but also from all over Europe, and as a result of the collaboration with the shopping centre the difficult task of finding somewhere to leave the car becomes significantly easier. The 1,044 parking spaces in the mall are not exactly next door to the route of the main Carnival processions, but a 25-minute walk is not an unfeasible option and there are also additional bus services in operation for the evenings of the main parades.
24-hour free parking will be available in Águilas Plaza on 21st, 22nd, 28th and 29th February, and on Sunday 23rd until 1.00 in the morning.
At the same time, the car park next to the railway station in Calle Juan Pablo II will also be open to residents and visitors, offering space for a further 400 cars, and in addition the Town Hall recommends the parking which is available in the El Rubial and Las Yucas districts. Aware of the congestion which is inevitably brought about by Carnival every year, though, the council is also requesting that locals and visitors use their cars as little as possible, reminding them that the main streets in the centre are closed during the principal events.
Neither is the contribution of Águilas Plaza to the Carnival is not limited to providing extra parking. On 12th February the mall will be hosting a Fiesta de Carnaval, with the participation of various local charity groups, including their own “batalla de cascarones” or battle of eggshells, and the free kids’ club will also be joining in the Carnival spirit with games throughout the week.
