ARCHIVED - Friday July 8 Free guided tour of the historic town centre of Aguilas
ARCHIVED ARTICLE See for yourself how Águilas has attracted settlers over the course of its history!
This tour reveals to those joining it a little of the history of Águilas, taking in the port (with comments on the castle and the lighthouse of Punta Negra), the Plaza de España and various important monuments and buildings, such as the Ícaro (Carnival monument), the Monument to the Railway, the Archaeological Museum, the Roman baths, the Carnival museum and the church of San José.
The tour begins at the Tourist Office at 20.00 and lasts approximately 2 hours. Bookings should be made online here or here as of approximately one month prior to the date of the event.
In the course of its long and interesting history the natural resources of Águilas attracted prehistoric settlers, then the Romans and finally the British (!), all of whom found different reasons to establish settlements in the municipality and exploit the local minerals, fish and grasses.
This visit is free, although the town would appreciate visitors enjoying a good lunch out in the town afterwards or staying in the town – the tourist office will be happy to provide you with details of where a good lunch can be obtained and accommodation details!
