The recent rise in temperatures across Spain(see
three consecutive days of over 40 degrees this week) will experience a brief setback this Friday (June 11) in some parts, as a DANA storm (or high-altitude isolated depression storm) is due to hit several parts of the Peninsula, mostly in the northern and inland areas.
This Friday, the temperatures, which have reached as high as 40 degrees in some parts of Andalucía, will decrease slightly across Spain, although they are forecast to be at least 35 degrees in many parts of the country.
The minimum temperature will be 35 degrees in the Guadiana and Guadalquivir valleys and the maximum temperature will be 34 degrees in the central area, the Ebro valley and the inland area of Cataluña.
The Spanish islands will also remain warm, with a temperature of around 32 degrees in the Balearics, while some parts of the Canary Islands will reach 34 degrees.
However, the slight decrease in temperatures on Friday will be accompanied by the arrival of a heavy storm, with showers, strong winds and even hail.
The storms will make a reappearance on Saturday afternoon (June 12), after a relatively clear and sunny morning in most of the country. The precipitation and wind will mostly affect the centre and northeast of the Peninsula and the Iberian mountain range.
Meanwhile the along Cantabrian coast, the clouds will disappear as the morning ends and in the Canary Islands, the temperatures will decline and the stormy haze will continue.
On the other hand, Galicia, Asturias, Cantabria, the Basque Country and La Rioja are forecast to have a slight rise in temperatures on Saturday.
There will be a north-eastern wind in the northern and eastern parts of the Peninsula, while in the Estrecho, the coast of Almeria and the Canary Islands there will be a strong eastern, or ‘levante’, wind.
Moving through to Sunday, there will be sunny skies in most of Spain, with the exception of some north-eastern areas and plateau of Castilla La Mancha, where the stormy weather will continue, with especially strong wind in Galicia, Asturas and the coast of Almeria.
In addition, in Bilbao, Lérida, Gerona, Aragón and Andalucía the temperatures will reach over 35 degrees once again.
