Daily infections have decreased slightly but the incidence rate in the Murcia Region is still on the rise
The Region of Murcia unfortunately appears to be following a similar trend to the rest of Spain and the vital coronavirus data is creeping up week by week. Although hospitalisations steadied out over the May long weekend they are once again edging up, and the average incidence rate among people over the age of 60 is steadily climbing, rising almost 200 points since the beginning of the week.
Coronavirus infections
The Region of Murcia registered a total of 865 new cases of coronavirus on Thursday May 5, 67 fewer than on the same day last week.
Since the start of the pandemic, a total of 414,191 infections have been recorded in the Region, of which 61,117 were diagnosed in people over the age of 60.
Cumulative incidence rate
The 14-day cumulative incidence rate has shot up to 1,768 cases per 100,000 inhabitants from the 1,594 figure registered on Tuesday.
Hospitalisations and fatalities
Hospital pressure is on the rise having stabilised somewhat at the beginning of the week: there are currently 314 people being treated in Murcian hospitals for Covid, which is 12 more than the previous day. In addition, fifteen patients are in the Region’s ICUs for more serious symptoms, two more than on Wednesday.
One Covid-related fatality has been reported to the regional health authorities in the last 24 hours, which brings the overall death toll since the beginning of the health crisis to 2,256.
Vaccination data
Since the last update, 91.87% of the entire population of the Murcia Region has had a least one dose. In addition, 84.49% of people are now double jabbed.
